Global Vegetable Oils Market: How Rising Oil Prices Are Affecting Prices in Ukraine and Worldwide
Following a sharp increase in global crude oil prices, the vegetable oils market has received additional support. However, large global inventories, seasonal growth in production, and subdued demand continue to prevent prices from rising significantly. As a result, market participants are closely monitoring developments in the energy sector, weather conditions, and the progress of the new harvest.

Rising Crude Oil Prices Support Vegetable Oils
Higher crude oil prices traditionally strengthen the vegetable oils market, as these oils are widely used in biodiesel production. Rising energy prices improve the competitiveness of biofuels, thereby increasing demand for palm, soybean, rapeseed, and sunflower oils.
Nevertheless, the market response has remained relatively moderate. Large global vegetable oil stocks and expectations of abundant new-crop supplies continue to limit further price growth.
Sunflower Oil Prices Remain Relatively Stable
The Ukrainian market has also responded to global trends. Sunflower oil prices have edged higher, although no significant price spikes have been recorded.
Market analysts note that Ukrainian producers remain highly competitive in export markets, while sufficient supplies of raw materials continue to prevent shortages. At the same time, the market outlook may change depending on the pace of the sunflower harvest and further geopolitical developments.
Current Global Vegetable Oil Prices
International markets are currently trading around the following indicative price levels:
- Palm Oil (Bursa Malaysia) – approximately 4,050–4,150 Malaysian ringgit per tonne.
- Soybean Oil (CBOT) – approximately 54–56 cents per pound.
- Sunflower Oil (FOB Black Sea) – approximately USD 1,130–1,170 per tonne.
- Rapeseed Oil has also gained support from higher crude oil prices, although its rate of increase remains limited.
Ukrainian Sunflower Market
Domestic demand from Ukrainian oilseed processors remains relatively strong. Processing companies continue purchasing sunflower seed, although further increases in procurement prices are currently restrained by expectations of the upcoming harvest.
Weather conditions remain one of the key factors influencing the market, as crop yields will largely determine price dynamics during the autumn marketing season.
Key Factors Shaping the Market in the Coming Weeks
According to market analysts, the following factors will have the greatest impact on future price movements:
- fluctuations in global crude oil prices;
- geopolitical developments in the Middle East;
- the pace of the new sunflower harvest;
- global vegetable oil inventories;
- demand from major importing countries, particularly India and China;
- biodiesel production activity.
Outlook
Despite the supportive influence of higher crude oil prices, global vegetable oil prices continue to rise only moderately. Ample supplies and expectations of a strong new harvest are limiting the market’s upside potential. For Ukraine, this translates into relatively stable conditions in the sunflower oil market, although price trends in the coming months will largely depend on crop yields and export demand.
