Sunflower prices in Ukraine remain stable despite expectations of record global production
Sunflower prices in Ukraine remain stable despite expectations of a record global increase in oilseed production in the 2026/27 marketing year.
According to the Electronic Grain Exchange, sunflower procurement prices (with 50% oil content) over the past week remained stable in the range of 32400–33500 UAH/ton. The market is supported by limited supply from producers, while the number of active buyers remains relatively low.
Prices for sunflower oil in Ukraine also remain steady at 1320–1325 USD/ton (DAP Black Sea ports).
At the same time, export offers for sunflower oil to Turkey for October are forming at 1200–1250 USD/ton, indicating expectations of a potential price decline after the arrival of the new harvest.
In Ukraine, sunflower sowing has been completed, covering 4.86 million hectares. However, some analysts estimate the actual area at over 5 million hectares, with a projected harvest of 13–14 million tons.
Favorable weather conditions in May and June, along with sufficient rainfall, are creating strong yield potential across key growing regions.
If favorable weather conditions in Ukraine and the EU persist and forecasts of record production are confirmed, the market will gradually price in increased future supply, which may put pressure on new-crop prices.
According to Oil World analysts, global sunflower production in the 2026/27 MY is expected to increase to 63.3 million tons, compared to 57.5 million tons in the previous marketing year and an average of 56.2 million tons over the past five years.
The total global sunflower harvesting area is also expected to rise to 34.5 million hectares in 2026/27 MY, compared to 33 million hectares last season and 30.4 million hectares in 2024/25 MY.
