Production of oil crops in Ukraine during the 2023/24 marketing year
The production of oil crops in Ukraine during the 2023/24 marketing year will increase by approximately 3.5 million tons compared to the previous season.
According to the data of the association “Ukroliyaprom“, the harvest of sunflowers increased by 1.4 million tons, soybeans – by 1.4 million tons, rapeseed – by 0.8 million tons.
One of the features of the current marketing year is a significant increase in the domestic processing of rapeseed, which has led to an increase in the production and export of rapeseed oil and meal. Domestic processing of rapeseed can reach a record 1 million tons. July-November of the current marketing year was already marked by the processing of more than 0.8 million tons. It is forecast that the production of rapeseed oil will amount to 0.42 million tons, and export – 0.4 million tons.
Also, according to the information of the association, in the current season it is planned to increase the processing of sunflower seeds to 13.5 million tons (more than 90% of sunflower resources) and increase the production of sunflower oil to 6 million tons, which will exceed the pre-war 2020/21 figure by more than 3% marketing year.
In particular, in 2023, according to the forecasts of “Ukroliyaprom”, the production of sunflower oil is expected to increase to 5.8 million tons, which will exceed its production in the pre-war year 2021 by 11.5%, and export – to 5.5-5.6 million tons ( or by 10%).
The forecasts are considered realistic, but they depend on the maximum processing of oil seeds, in particular sunflower, at domestic facilities, and the avoidance of restrictions on the export of products with high added value, especially sunflower oil and meal.
